VILLAGE YOGA PROTOCOLS FOR A CLEAN & HEALTHY SPACE

** We cannot make the decision for you whether joining in our classes is the best thing for you & your situation!

We expect you to do your own research & make your own choice.

There are risks involved when we go anywhere during this time!

We are offering yoga together in a heated space with:

Mats 6 ft. apart - 14 people per class.

Cross -ventilation 2-3 times per class.

No open mouth breathing.

No "hanging out" in lobby.

A no-touch system & flow as best we can.

Disinfection of all surfaces after each class.

BASIC INFORMATION FROM THE CDC:

  • Coronaviruses on surfaces and objects naturally die within hours to days. Warmer temperatures and exposure to sunlight will reduce the time the virus survives on surfaces and objects.

  • Normal routine cleaning with soap and water removes germs and dirt from surfaces. It lowers the risk of spreading COVID-19 infection.

  • The virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Spread is more likely when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).

OUR COMMITMENT TO KEEPING OUR VILLAGE HEALTHY:

As always, YOU, our VILLAGE, and your health and well-being are our main focus at Village Yoga. We have always strived to maintain a clean and safe space for all, and now more than ever are committed to having protocols in place so that we can practice with a bit more ease.  The procedures that we have listed in this document are in addition to the full and complete cleaning of the space that happens each day.  Please let us know if you have any questions, as we are here to reassure you that we are doing all we can to keep our sacred space well-tended.

These are the guidelines that we must all agree on to be able to practice at the studio:

  • Class size is reduced to a maximum of 14 students. There are marks on the studio floor to ensure a 6-8 foot distance between mats.

  • Please wear a mask upon entering the studio, in the lobby & in the bathrooms.

  • Hand SanitIzer bottles will be placed: on the front desk, by the water filter, in both shower rooms, next to the studio door, by the bathroom door.

  • We are asking all students and staff:  DO NOT come to class if you are sneezing, coughing, have a low/high fever or feel sick.  Likewise DO NOT come to class if you have been exposed to someone who is sick or showing symptoms.

  • For the time being, NO SHOWERS.  This will ensure proper Social Distancing measures, as well as greatly simplify our cleaning procedures so that we will be able to have more classes.  This will not be the case forever; as we open we just need to keep things as simple as possible.

  • Students MUST sign up for class ONLINE prior to class.  No Drop-Ins at this time, and we will reassess this situation in the next several weeks.

  • All students attending classes at the studio must sign our new waiver.  We have sent several emails and also put this information on the website for students to do prior to attending class.

  • Please check-in verbally at the front desk to make sure there is a no-touch system in place.

  • Students must bring their own yoga mat and towel(s) and any props you need.

  • We all have different comfort levels around the situation. PLEASE be respectful of this & greet people with JAZZ HANDS, BIG SMILES & WARM WORDS!

  • Please be respectful of social distancing practices, especially while checking in for class and waiting in line for the bathroom.

  • Please do not “HANG OUT” in the lobby before & after class. Students may socialize outside in the parking lot! We are keeping a simple flow of people into the studio for class and out of the studio afterwards.

  • The teacher will open the front doors before class and keep them propped open; open and keep them propped open after class so that only the teacher is touching the door handles.  Same with the door to the Studio room itself.

  • The teacher will prop the door to the hallway prior to class and close the door after class for easier access to the bathrooms.

  • Maintain proper distance when waiting in line for the bathrooms.  We are working on a no-key system for those doors as well as automatic faucets in the bathrooms.

  • There are hooks on the wall by the studio doors, and additional benches for students to place items that need to be set down during class. We encourage students to keep it simple and only bring in necessary items such as mat, towel, water bottle, and keys/purse/wallet.

  • Wash your hands frequently!!!! This is one of the best preventative measures!

GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW DURING CLASS:

  • NO OPEN MOUTH BREATHING! In the Hot 26 Series, please modify the Pranayama Deep Breathing and Kapalabhati Breathing Exercises so as to breathe only by the nose.  Teachers may offer a different breathing exercise as a replacement.

  • We will create air-flow in the space every 20-30 minutes by opening the slider and the studio door.

  • Teachers will stand in one place at the front of the studio by the mural except when airing out the room, and there will be no hands on adjustments.

  • As a courtesy to others and the space, please be responsible for your sweat.  Bring multiple towels as needed and take a bin for use after class if your items are dripping.

PROTOCOL FOR CLEANING THE STUDIO AFTER CLASS:

We use Force of Nature spray (which kills 99% viruses/bacteria) on any surfaces that have been touched before or after class, including:

  • Water filter faucet handle

  • Front door/Studio door/bathroom doors handles (all doors and handles)

  • Bathroom faucet handles as well as toilet

  • Light switches

  • Computer keyboard

  • Desk top

  • Benches/Hooks

  • Any other surfaces that we have not listed that may have been touched before, during or after class

We purchased a large bug sprayer that will be filled with cleaning solution for the studio floors.   The floor will be adequately sprayed and then wiped with the Swiffer after each class.  Those who sweat heavily need to bring an adequate amount of towels to capture their sweat (though there is no virus in the sweat as far as we know, it is a courtesy to others who will be even more sensitive to body fluids at this time).

We will air out the studio thoroughly after each class by opening the sliding door, studio door and front doors for a minimum of 15 minutes.

BASIC OVERVIEW:

In sum, we want to maintain an easy flow of students into and out of the studio space with as few surfaces touched as possible.  Opening doors for air flow during class will maintain good circulation, and of course the room will be aired out after class. Any surfaces that have been touched will be wiped down and sanitized.

Lastly, as the best means of prevention, WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY AND DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE! DO NOT COME TO CLASS IF YOU ARE FEELING SICK, HAVE A FEVER, OR HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO SOMEONE WHO IS SICK.

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE

THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE
