Breathing in Hot Yoga

Watch this video on tips for the beginning breathing exercise in your Hot 26 class!

Accessing the power and energy that comes from the ability to breathe with ease is life-changing!

Here are three quick pointers to help you with the Standing Deep Breathing exercise that we do at the start of the Hot 26 series:

Breathe in through the nose, out through the mouth, but through the throat. This may take some time to get the hang of, but will make sense the more you do it. You are creating a valved sensation with your throat.

Really try to feel the movement of your ribcage, especially on the inhalation. On the inhale, you can see and feel the big expansion happening in the chest and rib cage that makes that deep breath possible. On the exhalation, it feels like you are wrapping the ribs and abdominals around to push the breath up and out.

Keeping your hip muscles firm and your lower abdominal area strong will create a wonderful base out of which to lengthen and expand the chest area. In other words, with the lower body stable and strong, the movement of the breath occurs in your upper body (and can be felt down into the lower back even on some of the really deep breaths.)

We hope that you feel great from all of the yoga you are doing on your Intro month! Though you may be sore at the start, notice how much lighter, brighter and how much stronger you feel even after just a few classes!!

Lots of Love&gratitude,

Sally, Amy and the Village Yoga Team
